From Bush to Ocean

This is the journey we recommend most often to first-time Tanzania visitors who don't want to choose between the bush and the ocean. Four nights in Nyerere National Park — Africa's largest game reserve, and far quieter than the northern safari circuit — followed by two nights unwinding on Mafia Island, reached by a short light-aircraft hop rather than a full day of driving.

The pace is deliberately unhurried. Mornings are for game drives and boat safaris along the Rufiji River; by the second half of the trip, mornings are for whatever the tide and your mood suggest. It is a genuinely natural pairing: predators tracked on foot and from an open vehicle, then reef fish tracked from a snorkel mask, all inside the space of a week.
